Unless otherwise agreed, the English courts will have exclusive jurisdiction in relation to any claim, dispute or difference concerning our services or any matter arising from it.

Barristers at Butler Legal & Co work on the basis of instructions from qualified legal representatives (solicitors, in-house counsel, or direct access clients where permitted by Bar Standards Board rules). Instructions should be clear and detailed, setting out the nature of the matter, relevant facts, and the specific advice or representation required.
Our fees are agreed with the instructing solicitor or direct access client prior to commencement of work, unless otherwise stated in specific instructions. We will confirm the fee arrangement in writing. Fees may be charged on a fixed fee, hourly rate, or negotiated basis as appropriate to the work.
Butler Legal & Co treats all information received in connection with instructions as confidential and subject to legal professional privilege. We do not disclose such information without the consent of the client, except where required by law or professional rules.
All members of Butler Legal & Co are regulated by the Bar Standards Board and are bound by its Code of Conduct for Barristers. We are committed to maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity, honesty, and competence.
If you are unhappy with the services provided by any member of Butler Legal & Co, you may make a complaint to our Chambers Director. Complaints should be made in writing, setting out the details of your complaint and the outcome you are seeking.
We aim to respond to all complaints within 28 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may escalate your complaint to the Bar Standards Board or the Legal Ombudsman.
Whilst we take every care to provide the highest standard of service, we do not accept liability for any loss or damage arising from reliance on information provided, save where such liability cannot be excluded by law (including in cases of personal injury or death resulting from our negligence).
Either party may terminate instructions at any time, provided that the terminating party gives reasonable notice in writing. Upon termination, we will account for fees and costs incurred and will return all papers and materials provided.

We communicate with clients and their representatives by email, telephone, post, and in person as appropriate. Clients should ensure that their contact details are up to date and that they monitor correspondence carefully.
